We indeed know Valloire from the Tour de France. But a lot of people in Belgium ga on a skiholliday in the stations altitude but want something else now. When you search the internet then you find Valloire, Val cenis... We all know that it will be beautiful there but you can never be sure that you will have snow in the village. You are people who live in the mountains and say to us that there are snow canons. But we only have one week in a year to ski and we don't like it when we are in a green village. We don't have a lot of snow in Balgium or in Holland you know!

Davy,

Treating for snow falls, rain, sun, white village, green village...etc, there is nothing absolutely sure, all over the world!

Snow do not arrive each year the same day, at the same hour, at the same place!

Do you know that snow arrived in Valloire, two times, on July 13/and 14, cutting definitively the Tour de France road? (4 and 5 years ago)

In the Alps, up 1500 meters, snow can fall down every day of the year, and it does'nt phone to tell us when it's coming...

So we are all expecting it, in this moment.

To insure skiing, we installed nearly 400 snow makers. Eatch costs: 25 000 euro: each!, only to respect our customers... :D

I give up with translations, texts are getting too big :D Sorry for non english-speakers :D

Davy,

You're definitely right and i understand exactly what you mean.

Our goal is not to tell lies to people here. On contrary, if you read the guillaume's posts (and look at his pictures : http://www.cybervalloire.com/modules/ipboa...p?showtopic=554 ; http://www.cybervalloire.com/modules/ipboa...?showtopic=553), you'll see that we are fed up with "Office du Tourisme" who say to us when we call to know the snow level : "That's great we have 25cm". In fact, this is 25cm at the top of the mountain and 0cm in the resort or on the slopes ...

What we try here is to give an objective view of what happens in Valloire.

So, of course, we are unable to say when and where snow is gonna fall, nevertheless we have very accurate weather forecasts if you read it, you'll see that they didn't get wrong from the beginning, up to now. We are also unable to make snow fall  , BUT ...

If we wanna be objective, we have to say that Valloire realized very good investments with the (almost) 400 snowmakers and allow us to ski when the snow is not here. This year (at that time), the situation is awfull, almost everywhere in the Alps, and little resorts with little money don't have snowmakers, so they cannot allow their tourists to ski. We can ... !! :D

I understand that when you have one week of hollydays to spend in the mountains, you prefer to see everything white and silent, as on postcards ... and I (we) prefer too ... :bad: Artificial snow is not the best means, but is always better than nothing.

Sadly, you can see on the Valloire++ snapshots of ValThorens ( http://www.cybervalloire.com/modules/ipboa...=540&hl=thorens ) that this not better than us.

The good thing for you on Cybervalloire is that, members are from Valloire and everywhere else. So, we don't have the same point of view. People from "bretagne" (top northern-west of France) have 800 to 1000 km of car, to reach Valloire. So they don't feel like hearing about 50cm of snow, if there is only 5 !!

I personnaly don't live in Valloire and don't live in the mountains at all. I don't earn money or lose money if there is snow or not in the Alps ...

I'm exactly in the same situation as you (without the distance).

So i think that all these different characters can give you a good view of the situation, but i'm sorry, you have to read tons of french posts to see that :bad:

That's why i proposed in another post, to create an english-speaking (or other laguages) forum, for foreign people to tell their feelings and opinions.

Most people from Holland use a travel agency when they go skiing. And, maybe I shoult shame myself, the Dutch people also want something to get for there money. When I look in the guides of the travelagency. Valloire is not only a place that looks good, 1450 meter, 80% above 2000 meters, much sun, but the prices are also friendly. A skipass 125 Euro? Look in Osterreich what you get for 125 Euro; not a skipass. Also "les meubles" are for a friendly price. In Osterreich the meubles look better than in France, but becaus Valloire has severel new chalets, like Les Chalets du Galibier, Les Valmonts, Les Chalet de Vallee D'Or, the have good appartements.

There are also many Dutch people who goes to Osterreich; because the "after ski" is better there. Around 16.30 heure the beer is good, much music etc. So when you love a big party go to Osterreich.

Ski au pieds; in France, and also in many parts of Valloire. It is about 1000 kilometers from Holland, and you are glad that is is only about 15 kilometers from the highway, after 1000 kilometers. In Osterreich you must take a bus to come in another ski area, or to reach more kilometers. And last, but not least, in France they have a better forum. :D :D :bad:

Then: 19h30: Bar du Centre: marvelous, after: 2 crazy disco: The Village and l'Odyssée.... And don't forget the Bowling! Music, and Live Music!
And last, but not least, in France they have a better forum.
